Haley and Ben first met during their time at Chapman University* and became fast friends, sharing business classes together &amp; many mutual friends. Ben often joked that Haley was so smart that he would always have to sit by her so he would do better on his tests. Wink-wink.*Want to be the real MVP? Formal Attire

We always appreciate a little guidance when planning outfits for weddings, so here are some ideas for what to wear! To start, it’s helpful to know that the wedding is near the beach, but not on the beach– so if nothing else, PLEASE wear shoes! ;) The ceremony will take place in the paved garden courtyard, and the reception will be inside the ballroom. We kindly ask guests to dress in formal attire. Think elevated and elegant, while still comfortable for dancing and enjoying an indoor-outdoor event. We love personal style and encourage you to interpret the dress code in whatever way feels most like you– whether that leans classic, romantic, modern, funky, etc. Formal attire might look like:- Tailored suits in lighter or classic tones- Tuxedo-inspired looks or elevated suiting in any color- Floor-length gowns, midi dresses, or sophisticated cocktail dresses in any color or print- Elegant pantsuits or other polished formalwear in any style or color Please avoid overly casual attire such as jeans, t-shirts, sneakers, or athletic wear. Below you'll find visuals with some general ideas, but go ahead and get creative!

DESTINATION: MARRIAGE! :) 

We could not be more excited for you to join us for a weekend getaway filled with love, dancing, and laughter! As nearly every guest will be traveling into La Jolla, San Diego for the wedding weekend, we recommend booking flights and hotels as early as possible. We have been informed that there are some other local events happening the same weekend as our wedding (which isn't unusual for San Diego), so booking early will ensure you lock in the best rates for your stay.

For guests flying in for the wedding, you will want to book your flight into San Diego International Airport. We recommend arriving at least one day before the wedding (April 23), so you can check into your hotel and be well-rested for the festivities! La Jolla is about a 20-30 minute drive from SAN. If you are planning to explore the San Diego area during your stay, renting a car may be a good idea. That said, the city has plenty of ride-share access throughout.

WEDDING ROOM BLOCK 

For our wedding block, we have partnered with Empress hotels. Their rooms have just been redone and are absolutely fantastic. The best part is that the hotel is a 1-minute walk to the venue. Empress Hotel has kindly offered to extend the group discount up to 2 days prior to the April 23 check-in date and up to 2 days following the April 25 checkout date.&nbsp; If you are trying to book a longer stay, please reach out to Haley or Ben, and they can connect you with the sales rep at Empress to see if they can match the block rate for additional days. There is truly SO much to do in both La Jolla and the greater San Diego Area. If time allows, we encourage you to venture out and have a quintessential SoCal experience by seeing as much of the city as you can!

La Jolla is one of San Diego's most beautiful neighborhoods, with miles of coastline, tons of shopping, art galleries, and amazing restaurants. Catch a sunset, enjoy a beach day, and be sure to say hello to the sea lions who like to sun themselves on the ocean cliffs! While you absolutely can venture out of La Jolla, there is plenty to do just steps from the venue and the nearby hotels. For all you animal lovers! Located right by the San Diego Zoo, Balboa Park is an iconic, must-see destination filled with art, walking trails, a museum, food, and shopping. Spend an hour or spend the day!

Part of the fun of visiting Coronado Island is driving the long (slightly terrifying, but beautiful) bridge you'll take to get there! Definitely another iconic area to write home about after your visit in San Diego! Per their website: "Coronado Island is a Southern California beach destination known for wide sandy beaches, historic hotels, a walkable village, and calm bay waters. Located minutes from downtown San Diego, Coronado offers a relaxed coastal atmosphere with timeless charm."

If you're into history, be sure to check out Old Town San Diego! Okay, so this is niche. But! If you're into paranormal stuff (like Haley), you might want to catch a ghost tour and/or visit the Whaley House Museum. Apparently it's been dubbed "America's Most Haunted House." Fact or fiction? Perhaps that's up to you to decide (if you're brave enough to find out)!
